Crossing: Art, Heritage, and Personal Journeys

    Yumie Kono: The Road

Her artistic journey finds her roots in her mother, the poet Hideko Kono, who lost her husband and one of her children to the atomic bomb. Despite enduring extreme hardships in the aftermath of the war, she ensured that all her children received university educations. She particularly encouraged her two daughters to pursue art, setting Yumie on her path in the world of visual art.

The subtleness and softness rendered through her meticulous repetition of cross lines with hard pencils (H-10H) and a balanced layering of oil paint on linen represent a harmonious dialogue between the outer and inner landscapes.
